Birker Fell

Friday 30th March 2018

After meeting up at Geoff's café: on the A59, we proceeded onto our walk start near Birker Fell which is on the way to Wasdale.

Our Friday walk was 4.5 miles across mainly open fell with not much climbing. However, there were quite a few becks to cross, a lot of which did not have bridges. So there was a bit of entertainment as we attempted the crossings whilst trying to keep our feet dry.

After completing the walk we drove onto the hostel at Wast Water, set in possibly the most beautiful location of any hostel.

Having had issues with the adequacy of hostel meals, we had booked into the Strands Inn for our evening meals. The down side of this, was that we had a 1.5 miles walk each way for our evening refreshment. However the range of beer brewed on the premises and the quality of the food made up for this.
